Children and television. It’s a hot topic across the nation. How does television affect children? Is it bad? Is it good? How do programming, amount of viewing time, surround sound, and other technological “advances” affect behavior, play, parent-child interactions, and attention span? What is the effect of TV in the background for toddlers? Please join us to hear UMass Amherst College of Social and Behavioral Sciences’ Daniel R. Anderson answer these questions as they relate to infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Professor Anderson is a psychologist and children's TV consultant, who helped design Nick Jr's Dora the Explorer, Blues Clues, and Sesame Street.

Daniel Anderson received his Ph.D. from Brown university and is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. he has published numerous research articles concerning children's use of television and its impact, especially the cognitive aspects (attention and comprehension while watching TV, impact on intellectual development and school achievement). His current research concerns the impact of television on infants and toddlers.
